Accessible Social Media

Social media is an umbrella term that defines the various activities that integrate technology, telecommunications, social interaction, and the construction of words, pictures, video, and audio. This interaction, and the manner in which information is presented, depends on the varied perspectives and "building" of shared meaning among communities.

Social Media includes social sites like LinkedIn, Twitter, YouTube, and Facebook. By nature these sites are typically not accessible to people with disabilities. Organizations that were once Section 508 compliant are now creating public profiles on platforms that are not accessible. Section 508 requires that when Federal agencies develop, procure, maintain, or use electronic and information technology. While the use of many social networks are free, agencies making use of this technology or businesses using Section 508 as a best practices may not be complying with the standards if they are "using" technology that is not compliant.

TecAccess answers this challenge by providing an accessible social media solution, which includes a full day training entitled Access 3.0: Making Social Media Accessible, a social media roadmap that provides best practices, and ongoing social media leadership for your organization.
