Rockville, VA-- November 2, 2004-- Debra Ruh, President and Founder of TecAccess, served on a panel of esteemed colleagues in a session entitled, "Building Compliant Websites Using The Latest Tools," which was held at the Interagency Disability Educational Awareness Showcase (IDEAS).
This is the second time Ms. Ruh has been invited to serve on an IDEAS discussion panel. Panelists included Greg Pisocky, Business Development Manger for Adobe Systems, Joyce Miller of the U.S. Patent and Trade Office (USPTO), and Laura Keen and William Thomas of the Library of Congress (LOC). Mary Theofanos, Computer Scientist for the National Institute of Standards and Technology, moderated.
"I was so honored to serve on the panel with representatives from Adobe, USPTO, and LOC," states Ms. Ruh, "Greg, Joyce, William and Laura have a great wealth of knowledge regarding accessible website design. It was great to share and discuss strategies for building compliant websites, and I´m sure we provided some practical ideas for attendees to take back to their offices and implement immediately."
Since 1987, IDEAS has become a key event for federal agencies regarding access to information technology, accessibility policy, and current accessibility trends. In fact, it is the only annual showcase dedicated to Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act. It is sponsored by PostNewsweek Tech Media, a leading media company in the government technology community, which has invited TecAccess to return for IDEAS 2005, scheduled for next fall.
"PostNewsweek has far surpassed their high standards at IDEAS this time," Ms. Ruh says. "They put together a top-notch conference with meaningful information for all who attended. TecAccess was privileged to showcase our capabilities there.PostNewsweek not only served as producers of this conference but they provided a professional team of associates to ensure everything went off flawlessly." Ms. Ruh continues, "I was especially impressed by the personal assistance provided to persons with disabilities who attended the conference; PostNewsweek obviously is well-informed of the needs of conference attendees. They provided interpreters for people with hearing impairments and guides for people with blindness. This level of sensitivity toward the needs of persons with disabilities is not found at all conferences I´ve attended."
"I´ve seen IDEAS grow to a respected and anticipated showcase," Ms. Ruh explains. "We are privileged to exhibit with such noteworthy firms as Canon, Avaya, HP, and Thomson NETg. We are looking forward to next year´s conference. As a matter of fact, we already signed the papers to exhibit next year. The disability community sees such possibility in private firms´ dedication to accessibility best practices. These companies and others are truly benchmarking accessible product development."
