Rockville, VA-- November 2, 2004-- TecAccess, a worldwide leader in electronic and information technology (E&IT) accessibility and Section 508 solutions as well as employment of people with disabilities, is working closely with Access Living of Metropolitan Chicago to review technology plans for its new facility.

Access Living has formed a partnership with Mayor Daley and the City of Chicago, and has generated support from the State of Illinois, the federal government, and many generous benefactors to raise funds to secure a permanent home. The new 35,300 square foot facility will be occupied by their staff in mid-2006.

Access Living invited TecAccess to moderate a public Accessible Technology Summit on October 25, 2004, at their headquarters in Chicago. Local community members, government officials, and other interested parties were invited to contribute ideas and make recommendations regarding accessible technology for the new facility.

"We were delighted that Access Living called on us to contribute our expertise in moderating this technology summit and reviewing their technology plans," said Mac McCuller, Vice President of Marketing and Sales of TecAccess.

"My initial review of their planned technology infrastructure indicates that they have devoted significant attention to meeting the needs of their staff and visitors as they plan their transition to the new facility. Participating in their vision and commitment to creating a model facility for universal access and leading-edge enabling technology is an honor for us, and we are excited about partnering with them to make this vision a reality."

For over two decades, Access Living has worked directly with thousands of people with disabilities, offering them the tools to pursue independent living. The new, permanent home will enable thousands more to live the vision of independence. Utilizing innovative universal design elements tailored to serve all people, this state-of-the-art building project represents the first of its kind in the country. It will be the first community facility designed by and for people with disabilities that is grounded in concepts of universal design, accessibility, and environmental soundness.

The project and its design philosophy will have affects not only in the disabled community, but also in the construction industry and the community at-large. A new home will enhance Access Living´s mission by establishing an enduring presence and position for the organization to continue its work, ensuring the meaningful integration of persons with disabilities well into the 21st century.
