Rockville, VA-- June 5, 2003-- Tracey L. Ambeau, USDA Section 508 Coordinator, has invited Debra Ruh, President and Founder of TecAccess, to speak at the USDA Information Technology Expo. The exposition will be held on May 7, 2003, at the Jamie L. Whitten Federal Building in Washington D.C., from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM.
Ms. Ruh will present an eye-opening seminar on testing and assessment of Electronic and Information Technology (E&IT) for Section 508 compliance. In addition to Ms. Ruh´s presentation, Terri Youngblood Savage, President of Accessible Systems, Inc., will discuss Section 508 compliant software. Both presentations will be offered in alternate formats for persons who are blind or visually impaired. Sign language interpreters will also accompany the speakers.
Section 508 is the amendment to the Workforce Rehabilitation Act of 1973, which was signed into law by President Clinton in 1998. It requires all federal departments, agencies, contractors, and federally funded companies to make their electronic and information technology accessible to people with disabilities. The law covers the development, maintenance, procurement, and use of these technologies.
