Rockville, VA-- April 4, 3003-- Marcella Haynes invited Debra Ruh, president and founder of TecAccess, to speak before the National Institute of Health (NIH) Section 508 Steering Committee. Ms. Ruh gave her presentation about Section 508 testing and assessment on March 27, 2003, from 9:30 AM to 11:30 AM.
Marcella Haynes is the Coordinator for the Chief Division of Diversity Policy, Planning, and Evaluation of the Office of Equal Opportunity and Diversity Management. She is also the Chairperson for the NIH Section 508 Steering Committee. The NIH Section 508 Steering Committee is made up of 23 Health and Human Services (HHS) Agencies.
Section 508 is the amendment to the Workforce Rehabilitation Act of 1973 that was signed into law by President Clinton in 1998. It requires all federal departments, agencies, contractors, and federally funded companies to make their electronic and information technology accessible to people with disabilities. The law covers the development, maintenance, procurement, and use of these technologies.
