Richmond, VA-- February 12, 2002-- TecAccess is a Section 508 compliance and accessibility consulting, training, testing, and certification company.
Employees are not only specialists in assistive technology but also users of it. 75 percent of the individuals employed are disabled. They are affluent in the assistive technology they use and can accurately test applications for accessibility.
On June 24, 2001, the federal government passed into law Section 508 of the rehabilitation act of 1998. Section 508 requires that Federal agencies' electronic and information technology is accessible to people with disabilities, including employees and members of the public.
TecAccess´ goal is to provide people with disabilities the opportunities to use technology skills and to provide accessibility to the global Internet community.
According to Debra Ruh, CEO and co-founder of TecAccess, "We are interested in helping people with disabilities achieve as independent a lifestyle as humanly possible. That is why we all have great expectations for Section 508 and want to see it become legislation that will be helpful to those who rely on it."
Any company selling information technology to the federal government and any government entity must comply with this law. Section 508 affects the entire organization from design and development of software to the help desk that supports the products. To assist companies to comply with this law, TecAccess has designed the following courses:
- Assistive Technology (Workshop and Lab): An introduction to assistive technology. Students will get hands-on exposure to many of the current assistive technologies.
- Preparing the IT Department for Section 508: Focuses on developing and integrating Section 508 standards into your organization and developing test plans for implementation.
- Website Development and Section 508: Focuses on building and testing websites and browser based applications.
- Application Development and Section 508: Covers non-web based applications, including making accessible reports, tables, and graphs.
- Help Desk Training: Teaching support and training personnel how to support individuals who use assistive technology with your products.
