Course Overview:

Session 1: This is a methodical examination of the best practices for creating accessible PDF files from source MS Office documents i.e., MS Word. Our instructor will combine lecture with practical classroom demonstrations using actual PDF files and Adobe Acrobat Professional. Students will be given a step-by-step approach to evaluating the PDF as it is being created to determine if it is accessible, using the tools within Adobe Acrobat Professional and other techniques. Student handouts will capture "Best Practices" students can take with them.

Session 2: Building on the foundation laid in the first session, this session addresses the challenges faced by organizations that have legacy (old) PDF files that are inaccessible to users of assistive technology, and require remediation to make them accessible. The instructor will use actual PDF files to demonstrate the detailed steps you must take to carefully convert the PDF file to an accessible state. Students may follow along using the teaching file(s) on their laptop if properly equipped. Student handouts will capture "Best Practices" students can take with them when they return to their work environment.
