Veterans with Disabilities
TecAccess´ award-winning DVET program is designed to ensure that veterans with disabilities receive the support, job training, and recognition they have earned through service and sacrifice. This groundbreaking initiative is driven by the dynamic teaming of public and private partners.
Serving as the first-of-its-kind program in the nation, DVET uses a telecommuting model so that returning soldiers can participate in training from their home, business, rehabilitation facility or hospital bed. In return, hiring organizations are finding that the DVET program produces highly trained employees that can increase the productivity, efficiency, and creativity of any workforce.
"I am very proud to announce a Disabled Veterans (DVET) partnership has formed between the Department of Veteran Services, Department of Rehabilitative Services, Virginia Employment Commission and TecAccess -- a Virginia business that provides services and products to make IT systems accessible for people with disabilities." -- Governor Tim Kaine
DVET, the first of its kind program in the nation, is unique in that it:
- Prepares Veterans with Disabilities to use computer technology at the basic level for purposes of email, word processing, and other knowledge-worker skills.
- Prepares Veterans with Disabilities at a secondary and tertiary level for a successful career in technical and knowledge-based fields (e.g., information technology, intelligence, security, and financial planning).
- Once a specified curriculum is completed, the program further provides a guaranteed job at the end of the program.
The DVET program benefits both the Veterans with Disabilities and the hiring organization by empowering Veterans with Disabilities to leverage their unique and newly marketable qualifications to organizations with demonstrated accessibility needs.
